Reader Request - "Most Needed Words"

I had a very nice email today from a fellow named Ross. He spent a month teaching English as a second language in Baku last year and had used my blog to prepare him for speaking Azerbaijani in the street. He has requested a list of “most needed” words. I must say, they are the ones that I found myself constantly in need of but constantly forgetting. Memorize these and your fluency should increase!

How much?

all – hamı

every – hər

much – çox

many – çox

some – bəzi

few – bir neçə

none – heç nə

nothing – heç nə

not at all – heç

not a bit – heç

In a sentence, for example:

Hamı getdi. Everyone left.

Hər dəfə mən oradan yumurta alıram, bir necə harabdır. Every time I buy eggs from there, a few are bad.

Çox sağ ol! Thanks very much.

Bəzi adam fikirləşir ki, bu problem pisdir. Some people think that this is a bad problem.

Bir neçə adam razı idi. A few people were in agreement.

Onların heç birləri axşam ziyafətinə gəlmədi. None of them came to the party.
Nə istəyirsən? Heç nə. What do you want? Nothing.

Orada nə görürsən? Mən orada heç nə görmədim.

Qutuda nədir? Qutuda heç nə yoxdur.

Bu gün heç küləkli deyil. Today it is not at all windy.

Question words:

What? everything, something, nothing

Nə? hər şey, nəsə, heç nə

Orada hər şey var. That place has everything.

Who? everyone, someone, no one

Kim? hamı (hər kəs), kimsə (bir kəs), heç kim (heç kəs)

Mən sənə baş çekdim amma evində heç kəs yox idi.

Where? everywhere, somewhere, nowhere

Hara? hər yerdə, haradasa, heç bir yerdə

Novruz tonqalı hər yerdə qalansın! Let the Novruz bonfires be everywhere!

When? always, sometimes, never

Haçan? Nə vaxt? həmişə, bəzən, heç vaxt (heç zaman)
